Description

The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor’s College of Humanities and Sciences seeks a visiting, non-tenure-track faculty position for its Biology Department for the 2021-22 academic year.  UMHB seeks faculty who are active Christians and dedicated teacher-scholars to prepare students for leadership, service, and faith-informed discernment in a global society.

UMHB is conveniently located in Belton, an historic town of 22,000 in the heart of central Texas. Nearby cities are Temple (5 miles), Waco (45 miles), Austin (65 miles), San Antonio (130 miles) and Dallas/Ft. Worth (130 miles). Excellent schools, abundant cultural and recreational opportunities, and a high quality of life are hallmarks of the local community.

The Biology Department offers three degree programs (the BS in Biology; the BS in Biology with several pre-health professions emphases: Pre-Med/Pre-Dent, Pre-Vet, Pre-Pharmacy, Pre-Physician Assistant, Pre-Health Professions, and Pre-Clinical Lab Science; and the BS in Biology with teaching certification). The Biology Department stimulates students to attain scholarly excellence in the life sciences, within a Christian context, to prepare majors for career success in their chosen field and to provide non-majors with a foundation in biological principles. Our goals are to prepare students for career success and leadership in the life sciences, to strengthen the abilities of students to engage in critical thinking through the process of scientific investigation, and to prepare students to apply faith-based discernment in contemporary social and ethical issues related to Biology.
 

Biology Instructor Responsibilities:  Teach undergraduate courses in introductory and advanced biological science.  Preference will be given to candidates able to teach Human Anatomy and Physiology. The teaching load is 15 hours per semester of undergraduate courses with usually two course preparations.
 

Qualifications:  Candidate must have at least a Masters degree as well as 18 graduate hours in Biology.  Preference will be given to candidates with a Ph.D. in Biological Sciences (or related discipline). Excellent teaching and communication skills, a dedication to professional attainment, and commitment to quality improvement are essential.  Must be an active, and committed Christian.
