Description
The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor’s College of Education invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position with the additional responsibility of serving as the Director of the Marek-Smith Center for Teacher Preparation. The Marek-Smith Center for Teacher Preparation is a new state-of-the-art facility where undergraduate education majors work directly with children with disabilities, ages 3-21. This 12,000-square-foot facility provides cutting-edge technology, resources, equipment, and tools that enhance the learning experiences of UMHB students and program participants.
This position is available beginning in January of 2027 with an initial appointment at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor, commensurate with qualifications and experience. UMHB seeks faculty who are active Christians and dedicated teacher-scholars to prepare students for leadership, service, and faith-informed discernment in a global society.
UMHB is conveniently located in Belton, a historic town of 22,000 in the heart of central Texas. Nearby cities are Temple (5 miles), Waco (45 miles), Austin (65 miles), San Antonio (130 miles) and Dallas/Ft. Worth (130 miles). Excellent schools, abundant cultural and recreational opportunities, and a high quality of life are hallmarks of the local community.
Faculty Responsibilities: Activities required of all faculty include exemplary teaching, curriculum development, student recruitment and advising, scholarly activity, and service to the department, college, university, and community.
Specific Responsibilities:

Specific Responsibilities:
- Teach learner-centered undergraduate and graduate courses (including online instruction as well as face-to-face) related to one or more of the following:
- Special Education
- Literacy Education
- Diverse Populations
- Texas standards and requirements for instruction and assessment
- Provide oversight for the Marek-Smith Center for Teacher Preparation.
- Develop, implement, and maintain programs, processes, and procedures for the Marek-Smith Center for Teacher Preparation.
- Collaborate with other faculty in monitoring and implementing various aspects of the graduate and undergraduate programs.
- Support the continued development of the Marek-Smith Center as a model clinical and teacher-preparation environment
Qualifications:
- Must be an active and committed Christian who will support the University’s mission and be an active participant in a local church.
- Doctorate from an accredited institution with an area of emphasis, specialization, or professional experience in special education. ABD candidates will be considered; however, tenure-track status requires the terminal degree to be in hand.
- Valid teaching certificate and a minimum of three (3) years of successful K–12 Special Education teaching experience preferred.
- Experience in higher education preferred.
- Texas teaching experience preferred.
- Preference may be given to candidates who hold Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) certification and/or demonstrate expertise in literacy, dyslexia, and evidence-based reading instruction, particularly as these areas relate to the preparation of educators and support of students with diverse learning needs.
- Preference will be given to candidates with Texas Special Education certification.
- Must agree to the University’s Employee Statement of Understanding.
