The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor’s College of Visual and Performing Arts seeks qualified faculty for two positions in the Department of Music beginning Fall 2022, with initial appointment at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor, commensurate with experience. UMHB seeks faculty who are active Christians and dedicated artist-teachers to prepare students for leadership, service, and faith-informed discernment in a global society.
The Department of Music offers the following undergraduate degrees: Bachelor of Music in Music Education, Bachelor of Music in Vocal Performance, Bachelor of Music in Church Music, Bachelor of Arts in Music, and Bachelor of Arts in Music with an Emphasis in Music Business.
UMHB is conveniently located in Belton, an historic town of 22,000 in the heart of central Texas. Nearby cities are Temple (5 miles), Waco (45 miles), Austin (65 miles), San Antonio (130 miles) and Dallas/Ft. Worth (130 miles). Excellent schools, abundant cultural and recreational opportunities, and a high quality of life are hallmarks of the local community.
Faculty Responsibilities:
Activities required of all faculty include exemplary teaching, curriculum development, student advising; professional attainment; and service to department, college, university, and the community.
Specific Responsibilities:
We seek experienced voice instructors who are interested in growing a vibrant vocal arts program dedicated to the overall development of the 21st century vocalist. Responsibilities over the two positions include: Diction, Vocal Pedagogy, Applied Voice, Vocal Literature, Opera/Musical Theatre Ensemble, and directing opera and musical theatre productions. Other duties may be assigned based on the needs of the Music Department and the successful candidate's qualifications. The teaching load is typically 12 credit hours per semester. Activities required of all faculty include exemplary teaching, curriculum development, student advising, professional attainment, and service to department, college, university, and the community.
- Terminal degree in a related field is required. Master’s degree in a related field with commensurate experience may be considered in lieu of a terminal degree. Tenure track status for either position requires a terminal degree in hand.
- For one of these position, bass/baritone/tenor is preferred, all candidates will be considered.
- Evidence of successful experience in coordinating and managing musical productions required for one of these positions.
- Excellent teaching and communication skills, a dedication to professional attainment, and commitment to quality improvement are essential.
- Must be an active and committed Christian.
