Description
Responsibilities:  The Certification Coordinator is responsible for managing and overseeing certification processes to ensure compliance with the Texas Education Agency (TEA) requirements and university standards. The role involves guiding students, faculty, and staff through certification procedures for the undergraduate, master’s and doctoral programs; maintaining accurate records; and ensuring timely submission of all necessary documentation. The coordinator facilitates approximately 300 undergraduate students in meeting state teaching certification benchmarks and oversees the graduate admissions process for the College of Education. Additionally, the coordinator provides guidance to around 65 students pursuing principal and superintendent certifications, ensuring compliance with state regulations. Responsibilities also include monitoring candidate registrations through the State Board for Educator Certification, serving as the College's liaison with state auditors, and supervising data entry for electronic files and preparation of hard-copy student records. The coordinator regularly updates the Teacher Education Cooperative—a partnership of 16 area school districts, two colleges, and the regional service center—on certification requirements. They also provide reports on TExES pass rates and trends to the Department of Education and other campus representatives. Using data from various sources, the coordinator prepares multiple state and federal reports critical to program evaluation and compliance.
 
Minimum Requirements: 
  • Must be an active and committed Christian who will support the University’s mission and who will be an active participant in their local church.
  • A Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university in Education or a related field is required.
  • Experience in a teaching or other professional full-time employment role in a K-12 public education environment is strongly preferred. 
  • Experience in state teacher certification system compliance, grant compliance, and/or accreditation compliance is strongly preferred.
  • Proficiency in technical and business writing is required.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office for Windows applications (word processing, database, spreadsheet, e-mail, presentation graphics, etc.) is required.
  • Proficiency in general office equipment operation is required.
  • Must possess exceptional time management skills, attention to detail, and accuracy in recordkeeping.
  • Must agree to the University’s Employee Statement of Understanding.
