The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor College of Christian Studies welcomes applications for a full-time Visiting Assistant Professor position with specialties in Theology and Philosophy. This position is a 9-month, non-tenure track visiting faculty position. The successful candidate will teach undergraduate courses in Theology, Philosophy and introduction to Old or New Testament, beginning in late July of 2025. UMHB seeks faculty who are active Christians and dedicated teacher-scholars to prepare students for leadership, service, and faith-informed discernment in a global society.

The College of Christian Studies offers four degree programs with a variety of concentrations and minors:  Bachelor of Arts in Christian Studies, Bachelor of Christian Ministry (five concentrations available), Bachelor of Transformational Development (in collaboration with UMHB’s McLane College of Business), and Religion and Public Life. Students in the BA degree program may pursue a minor in the College of Christian Studies or in one of the other colleges at UMHB. Students may also double-major.

UMHB is conveniently located in Belton, an historic town of 22,000 in the heart of central Texas. Nearby cities are Temple (5 miles), Waco (45 miles), Austin (65 miles), San Antonio (130 miles) and Dallas/Ft. Worth (130 miles). Excellent schools, abundant cultural and recreational opportunities, and a high quality of life are hallmarks of the local community.

Faculty Responsibilities:
Activities required of all faculty include exemplary teaching, curriculum development, student advising; professional attainment; and service to department, college, university, and the community. While primarily a teaching institution, UMHB recognizes and rewards research, publication, and other forms of scholarly attainment.

Specific Responsibilities:
The successful candidate will have competence in Philosophy and Theology. At least half of the teaching will be in service to the Core. Teaching responsibilities include online as well as classroom courses. Full-time faculty members typically teach 12 hours per semester with three course preparations.
 
Qualifications:
  • A PhD from a regionally accredited university or seminary in the field of either Theology or Philosophy.
  • Excellent teaching and communication skills, a dedication to professional attainment, and commitment to quality improvement are essential.
  • Collegiality is essential.
  • Must be an active, and committed Christian.
  • Because of the specific mission of the College of Christian Studies, the candidate must be a Baptist and sustain active membership in a local Baptist church.
