Description
The University of Mary Hardin Baylor’s College of Humanities and Sciences seeks qualified faculty for its Chemistry Department beginning Fall 2019, with appointment at the rank of Instructor. UMHB seeks faculty who are active Christians and dedicated teacher-scholars to prepare students for leadership, service, and faith-informed discernment in a global society.

The Chemistry Department offers an undergraduate degree program that includes two areas of emphases, an emphasis in chemistry and an emphasis in biochemistry. The department provides students with opportunities to study fascinating topics, to conduct original chemical research, and to carry out exciting experiments preparing students for positions in forensic chemistry, pharmaceutical development, environmental science, high school teaching, and research in industry. Our Chemistry labs are fitted with outstanding instrumentation, including Atomic Absorption Spectroscopy, Fluorescence Spectroscopy, Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy, High Performance Liquid Chromatography, and Nuclear Magnetic Resonance.

UMHB is conveniently located in Belton, an historic town of 20,000 in the heart of central Texas. Nearby cities are Temple (5 miles), Waco (45 miles), Austin (65 miles), San Antonio (130 miles) and Dallas/Ft. Worth (130 miles). Excellent schools, abundant cultural and recreational opportunities, and a high quality of life are hallmarks of the local community.

Faculty Responsibilities:   Activities required of all faculty include exemplary teaching, curriculum development, student advising; professional attainment; and service to department, college, university, and the community.

Specific Responsibilities:  Teach undergraduate courses general chemistry lecture and laboratory, introductory non-major’s chemistry, introductory major’s chemistry, and advanced courses. The teaching load is typically 15 hours per semester and minimal committee work, with possible evening and online course development.
 
Qualifications:  Masters in Chemistry with a minimum of 18 graduate hours in Chemistry is required. Excellent teaching and communication skills, a dedication to professional attainment, and commitment to quality improvement are essential. Must be an active, and committed Christian.
