The University of Mary Hardin Baylor’s College of Humanities and Sciences seeks qualified faculty for its Biology Department beginning Fall 2019, with initial appointment at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor, commensurate with experience. UMHB seeks faculty who are active Christians and dedicated teacher-scholars to prepare students for leadership, service, and faith-informed discernment in a global society.

The Biology Department offers three undergraduate degree programs that include the BS in Biology; the BS in Biology with several pre-health professions emphases: Pre-Med/Pre-Dent, Pre-Vet, Pre-Pharmacy, Pre-Physician Assistant, Pre-Health Professions, and Pre-Clinical Lab Science; and the BS in Biology with teaching certification. The Department of Biology stimulates students to attain scholarly excellence in the life sciences, within a Christian context, to prepare majors for career success in their chosen field and to provide non-majors with a foundation in biological principles. Our goals are to prepare students for career success and leadership in the life sciences, to strengthen the abilities of students to engage in critical thinking through the process of scientific investigation, and to prepare students to apply faith-based discernment in contemporary social and ethical issues related to Biology.

UMHB is conveniently located in Belton, an historic town of 20,000 in the heart of central Texas. Nearby cities are Temple (5 miles), Waco (45 miles), Austin (65 miles), San Antonio (130 miles) and Dallas/Ft. Worth (130 miles). Excellent schools, abundant cultural and recreational opportunities, and a high quality of life are hallmarks of the local community.

Faculty Responsibilities: Activities required of all faculty include exemplary teaching, curriculum development, student advising; professional attainment; and service to department, college, university, and the community.

Specific Responsibilities: Teach undergraduate courses in introductory and advanced biological science. The teaching load is typically 12 hours per semester. Selected candidates may be assigned possible evening and web course development; recruitment and retention activities and/or science education courses, depending on experience and credentials.

Qualifications: Doctorate in Biological Sciences or related discipline from an accredited institution is required; ABD will be considered (tenure-track status requires terminal degree in hand). Excellent teaching and communication skills, a dedication to professional attainment, and commitment to quality improvement are essential. Must be an active, and committed Christian.
