Description
The University of Mary Hardin Baylor’s College of Humanities and Sciences seeks qualified faculty for its English Department beginning Fall 2019, at the rank of Instructor. UMHB seeks faculty who are active Christians and dedicated teacher-scholars to prepare students for leadership, service, and faith-informed discernment in a global society.

The English Department offers two undergraduate degree programs that include BA in English and Teaching Certification in English Language Arts and Reading Secondary Level 7-12.

UMHB is conveniently located in Belton, an historic town of 20,000 in the heart of central Texas. Nearby cities are Temple (5 miles), Waco (45 miles), Austin (65 miles), San Antonio (130 miles) and Dallas/Ft. Worth (130 miles). Excellent schools, abundant cultural and recreational opportunities, and a high quality of life are hallmarks of the local community.

Faculty Responsibilities:   Activities required of all faculty include exemplary teaching, curriculum development, student advising; professional attainment; and service to department, college, university, and the community.

Specific Responsibilities:  Teach undergraduate English courses in UMHB’s Academic Core, including First-Year Composition (FYC) courses and sophomore-level literature. Full-time instructors will teach 15 hours per semester. Instructors are also required to comply with responsibilities typical for instructional faculty: office hours, attendance at required meetings, etc.
 
Qualifications:  Master’s degree in English is required; preference will be given to candidates with a PhD. Candidates must show strong evidence of teaching FYC courses as well as sophomore-level literature. Special consideration will be given to candidate with additional background in teaching online or hybrid FYC and literature courses. Excellent teaching and communication skills, a dedication to professional attainment, and commitment to quality improvement are essential. Must be an active, and committed Christian.
