The Department of Music offers the following undergraduate degrees: Bachelor of Music in Music Education, a Bachelor of Music in Performance, a Bachelor of Music in Church Music and a Bachelor of Arts in Music.
UMHB is conveniently located in Belton, an historic town of over 20,000 in the heart of central Texas. Excellent schools, abundant cultural and recreational opportunities, and a high quality of life are hallmarks of the local community.
Faculty Responsibilities: Exemplary teaching and service to department and college, such as department committees and student recruiting.
Specific Responsibilities:
- Teach undergraduate courses in the field of instrumental music.
- Ensemble responsibilities could include all or part of the following: Wind Ensemble, Jazz Ensemble, and Athletic Bands.
- The Wind Ensemble is the premiere concert ensemble of the instrumental program. The ensemble performs a minimum of two concerts each semester and performs a variety of repertoire that includes new music, classic standards, and chamber music. The Wind Ensemble recording submission to the Small Band Program Showcase was selected for presentation at the 2017 CBDNA National Conference in Kansas City.
- The Jazz Ensemble performs multiple concerts throughout the year. The ensemble performs an eclectic variety of repertoire. This ensemble has travelled to China twice in the last six years.
- The Blackshirt Cru Spirit Band is the musical ambassador for the athletic program, primarily basketball and football. During the fall, the spirit band performs at all home football games and other events, including welcome week and various pep rallies. In the spring, the spirit band performs at all home men’s and women’s basketball games.
- Master’s degree from an accredited institution with at least 18 graduate hours in music is required; Terminal degree in music is preferred.
- Excellent teaching and communication skills, a dedication to professional attainment, and commitment to quality improvement are essential.
- Must be an active and committed Christian.
