Description
Responsibilities: 

Provides primary support of the University network infrastructure, including design input, construction and troubleshooting to ensure network integrity and availability.

Minimum Requirements: 

Required:

  • An Associate Degree from an accredited university in a related field is required. A Bachelor’s degree is preferred. A minimum of five (5) years’ specifically-related employment experience paired with specifically-related training or certification may be considered in lieu of a degree.
  • A minimum of three (3) years’ full time employment experience installing, configuring, and maintaining network equipment (switches, routers, copper, and fiber cable) is required.
  • Proficiency with TCP/IP stack and the OSI model is required.
  • Competency in Microsoft Office for Windows applications (word processing, database, spreadsheet, e-mail, presentation graphics, etc.) is required.
  • Proficiency in general office equipment operation is required.
  • Must possess exceptional time management and detail-orientation skills.
  • Must be at least 21 years of age.
  • Must possess a current and valid Texas driver’s license and be insurable under UMHB auto policy.

Preferred:

  • A minimum of three (3) years’ employment experience supporting an enterprise scale wireless network (over 100 access points).
  • Knowledge of RF transmissions and antenna behavior.
  • Knowledge of wireless system architecture and Layer 2 and 3 network protocols, including TCP/IP, DHCP, 802.11X, 802.1X, RADIUS, DNS, routing, switching and firewall security.
  • Experience with Linux or Unix systems.
  • Experience working with Anti-Spam technologies, backup solutions.
